Michael is an artist first, who values the innate ability to express our vulnerabilities and needs through non-verbal, audible, kinesthetic and visual ways. He grew up dancing, singing, performing and creating in every form. He believes in the power that art possesses for those who do not have the language for it yet and through this process can begin their healing.
Michael's work in the field expands across LGBTQ+ services, creative youth development, art education, gender/state violence, suicide prevention, art and performance, community mental health and program development.
He focuses across and through the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, carcerality, and queer/trans identities that is specific to his lived experience and passion in working towards liberation for queer and trans youth/people of color. Michael has a specialization in somatic based-creative interventions and strategies for processing identity, culture, grief, anxiety, shame, and transition and how we can use this point of our lives to better connect to ourselves, our needs and who we want to become.
Michael utilizes a psychoanalytic and expressive arts approach to support each client in processing and healing through space, materiality, and time with any art or performance modality that is comfortable and meets them where they are. His training in trauma-informed practices, dance/movement, expressive therapies, and abolition and feminist perspectives allows him to incorporate each client's passions, joy and interest in the experience to reclaim, repair and reimagine their body and mind connection forward.
my approach
There is so much in the power of therapy as a process that invites curiosity, creativity and play. I prioritize the innate ability to express vulnerabilities and needs through non-verbal, auditory, kinesthetic, and visual ways which I process with dance/movement therapy, sensorimotor therapy, TF-CBT, and other creative therapies. I strongly believe in the transformative power of art, especially for those who haven't found the language or words to express themselves yet. I honor the creative process and how it can initiate our own journey towards care and healing.
My approach is to assist clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, grief and complex emotions in their healing journey using space, materiality, and time. I tailor my approach to center comfort and meet you where you are at. Integrating a variety of creative and somatic modalities to incorporate your passions, joys, and interests into the therapeutic process.
I believe we do not get through this life alone, so I encourage connection, community, and empathy with yourself and others. In this process of healing, we will discover love for your self, affirming all parts of you and inviting them forward so that your mind and body can find full connection and embody authenticity and uniqueness.
